Life Lately #2

My new apartment; latest visit to Vancouver - Grouse mountain; shenanigans in Dollarama; just before my favourite French lady moved to Quebec; in Australia for my friends 21st; IN-N-OUT HAPPENED; we visited Alcatraz - he's amazed by how big his hood is; Hawaii with the Australian last year; one of the many occasional office dogs.

Oh boy, it's been a while. So much has changed. I'm no longer in the same job, no longer in the same relationship, no longer in the same apartment, my parents moved across the country and somehow I'm TWENTY TWO. How did that happen?!?

So let's start from the beginning.

Job. I no longer work in a children's hospital. For the past two and a half years I've been working in an encoding house. For those that don't know what that is - I'm assuming most - we make DVDs and send content to digital platforms. I primarily do iTunes and it's fantastic to do something related to what I went to school for. We also have an office dog and love to share delicious treats with coworkers so hey that's pretty awesome too.

Relationship. Shortly after I last posted we ran into some issues that resulted in the relationship no longer being healthy for either of us. But now I'm in a fantastic new (well, over a year) relationship which despite coming with its own set of difficulties - particularly the fact that it's a LDR - is comfortable and caring and better than I thought relationships could be. He'll come up a lot (if I continue posting) because I am ridiculously head over heels in love with him.

Apartment. Since I last posted I've had a new roommate and moved out on my own. I love living alone. Sometimes it can be lonely and I wish I had someone to hang out with by default but the feeling is fleeting and I'll love living alone again. Especially when I don't have to wear pants or clean if I feel like it.

Twenty two. The Taylor Swift song. I listened to it for the first time on my birthday and (unpopular opinion) didn't really like it. I feel old but I know I'm not.

I wish I could write food posts but honestly I'm a terrible cook and don't go out to eat often since I save all my money for plane tickets. I may post some reviews of makeup or stores or services. I'll definitely post travel related things. I'll likely post overviews of my trips to San Francisco and Vancouver (where my boyfriend and parents live, respectively.)

Talk soon (or not.)

Life Lately

I get bored at work; rings I made from coal from my boyfriend's cottage; halloween costume!; candy from halloween sales; I don't like doctors appointments; never trust me with googly eyes; I get REALLY bored at work; from Frankie mag, an accurate description of how to get me to do dishes; my roommate's rat, Macy!
Ok, so we've got the rate at which I post established - approximately twice a year.

Lately, I haven't been up to a whole lot. I'm mostly at work, where I have a whole bunch of spare time. To make my shifts go by faster I've taken to picking up the newspaper on my way in and doing the crossword and sudoku. Once those are done I start colouring in the answers from the previous day's puzzles because by then I'm mad bored. This has resulted in trying to find sentances or hidden messages. So far, I've found nothing. Thus far I've found "I cried rye", "Rang slang rupees", "Eye wed men" and "hoe bag". Yeah, I get really bored.

A while back (long enough ago that it was in the summer) I spent a weekend at my boyfriend's cottage. He told me a story of a coal ship that sank 100 years ago and showed me the coal that still washes up on the shore. Because it's just how I roll, I collected some which inevitably sat collecting dust for months. BUT! I did end up turning two pieces into rings, one I'm not so fond of but the other I really love. And now they sit, collecting dust... Yeah. Some things never change.

Moving on, HALLOWEEN. A month late... don't judge me (I blame my posting frequency). I celebrated the weekend before by baking pumpkin and chocolate cookies with the roomie and friends and then going to a party some of my friends were having. It was a really fun night, and there were some intense/impressive/what costumes (a friend spent months building an iron man costume complete with lights and rockets (well, nerf bullets) which was crazy).

Lastly, The Kat Cave (which we've named our apartment) has a new addition this week! My roomie brought her rat Macy to come live with us. For now she's napping/getting used to her new home but I'm excited to have a furry little friend in the house. Plus, it doesn't hurt that she's crazy adorable!

So there you have it, my average, if not a little dull (I really need to work on that) life. I'll be back in 6 months! (I'd like to post more but I'm just being realistic haha).

The End of an Era

I was a long way from graduating when this picture was taken. I'm the one on the left!

I have one class left, IN MY LIFE. When did this happen? It feels like just yesterday that I walked into my first day of kindergarten (and subsequently spent my first day of JK in the wrong classroom) and now I'm almost done college. It's terrifying, yet I'm so incredibly excited. I have an internship starting on the 23rd and I have a job for the summer. I'm still waiting to hear back from the university I applied to but to be honest, I already have a post secondary education and so I don't really see the need for more. I'll only go if I don't get a job in my industry (and get accepted I suppose). Now I just need to learn how to fake adulthood because I am so not prepared for that nonsense. Patio beers anyone? That's an adult thing to say right?

Cheese

Disclaimer: This post in going to be incredibly informative and change your life for the better...not. (yeah I just went back to the 90's with that one).

I really really like cheese. Not as in I like every kind of cheese there is, because I'm actually incredibly picky about what cheeses I like, but as in the quality of cheese. Those kraft slices make me want to crawl into bed and weep. Unless they're in an overly greasy grilled cheese in which case the fat makes up for the plastic like property of the "cheese". Shredded and bagged cheese is only passible when melted. Never will you see me sitting there eating a bag of shredded cheese (though you will see me with a plate of freshly shredded cheese, often). Don't even talk to me about pre-sliced cheese. I didn't realize the quality mattered to me so much until I moved out of home. Most of the time I can't afford proper cheese. Seriously, have you seen how expensive that stuff is?!? Or because I'm a student and living in less than desirable neighborhoods, good cheese just isn't available. So when I go home, seeing a block of cheese sitting in the fridge is a godsend. I will cut a huge hunk out of it and when I'm done chowing down will feel so happy and satisfied it could actually be considered pathetic. And when I come across a sum of money, or sometimes just get paid, I will treck to my nearest Loblaws (the one I frequent most is by my parents house because I figure I'm already there if I have to pop in) and buy a block of cheese. And then all my meals for the next few weeks (read: days) are delicious.

Beer

This is not my dad.

My dad always tells the best stories from when he was growing up. I was home yesterday and he decided to tell me about the time he worked in a brewery. I don't remember which one it was but all the employees would get a free case of beer every week as well as a chip that gave them 50% off any beer they bought - an employee discount. When the employees would take their cases home at the end of the week they'd have to wrap them in brown paper so customers didn't question why so many people were walking out of the store room with cases of beer and not paying. At the time my dad didn't drink beer so he would put the cases he got under his bed and give them to friends and pay his mechanic. When he needed his car fixed he'd always take it to the same guy, because they had a deal. The mechanic would look at his car and give him a cost in cases of beer. So for a few years my dad got free beer and free maintenance on his car. Sweet!

Oh Shit

First project of the semester. iPhone's are great at exposure.

It's starting to sink in that this could possibly be my last semester of schooling EVER. True I'm applying for university (currently in college) but I may not get in, or I might not get any transfer credits (in which case I would not go). I am in no way mature enough to start my adult life. I had a candy cane for dinner a week ago, a CANDY CANE. I still can't keep my room clean for more than a few days. I can't even drive! Oddly, I'm not worried. I'm excited. I want to get started on saving to buy an apartment, and then saving to be completely irrational and rent out said apartment and travel until my wallet wants to die. Until then, I'll just continue to take pictures on my iPhone.
